Dr. Dustin Wirig

Dr. Dustin Wirig is an East Bay native who was raised in Antioch and has been a long-time resident of Walnut Creek. He is the proud father of five children and is deeply rooted in his community.

Dr. Wirig began his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University in 1995. During his education, he took a two-year leave to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in French Polynesia. During this time, he became fluent in both French and Tahitian and developed a lasting commitment to service—an experience that ultimately shaped his decision to pursue a career dedicated to helping others.

He returned to Brigham Young University to complete his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2001. While there, he served as a physiology instructor for undergraduate students and taught French and Tahitian to incoming missionaries at the Missionary Training Center.

Dr. Wirig earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 2005. It was during dental school that he discovered a strong passion for relieving dental pain. Beyond his required clinical training, he frequently volunteered in the school’s emergency clinic, where his experiences solidified his interest in endodontics as his chosen specialty.

Following dental school, Dr. Wirig completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center in 2006. There, he gained advanced training in oral surgery and comprehensive dental care, including early exposure to three-dimensional, computer-assisted diagnostic technologies.

He then pursued specialty training in endodontics at Case Western Reserve University, where he also earned a Master of Science in Dentistry in 2008. After completing his residency, Dr. Wirig established his practice in the Cow Hollow neighborhood of San Francisco. Since becoming a solo practitioner in 2012, he has successfully grown his practice into one of the largest solo endodontic practices in the city.

While Dr. Wirig has greatly valued building and leading his San Francisco practice, he joined Walnut Creek Endodontics to be closer to home and to practice alongside his long-time colleague, Dr. Joanne Jensen.

Dr. Wirig remains actively involved in organized dentistry and has contributed to dental education as an adjunct professor of endodontics at the University of the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry. He is in the final phase of achieving his board certification through the American Board of Endodontics. He maintains active membership in several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Francisco Dental Society, and the American Association of Endodontists.
